What is the regulatory status of Isomaltulose in Malaysia?

ANSWER

According to Malaysia Guide to Nutrition Labelling and Claims, Isomaltulose may be added into foods in Malaysia as an added nutrient with certain conditions and functional claims.
The permitted functional claims of Isomaltulosea are as follows:
i) Isomaltulose is slowly hydrolyses to glucose and fructose and therefore it provides longer lasting energy compared to sucrose*
ii) Isomaltulose is a slower release source of energy compared to sucrose*
iii) Isomaltulose provides longer lasting energy compared to sucrose*
iv) Isomaltulose slowly hydrolyses to glucose and fructose compared with sucrose*

Note:
* Refer to others conditions required for making these claims.
For all the above claims, words/ sentences of similar meaning can also be used.
