Question

Are there any Food regulation that controls Indonesian MREs ?

ANSWER

According to Presidential Decree No. 80 Year 2017, the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (NADFC / BPOM) carry out government duties in the field of Drug and Food control in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations.

According to BPOM Regulation Number 21 Year 2016 on Food Category, Category 16.0 covers Mixed food (composite), which are food (dishes) that have been processed/prepared or composite food (excluding food from Category 01.0 to 15.0), where food additives are added directly into the food. Some examples of this category are thick meat soup, fried rice, instant chicken porridge and etc. Therefore, MRE (meals, ready-to eat) are considered composite food (category 16) and must follow BPOM regulation in said category as well.
