What are the minimum dosages of use to claim ‘good source of fibre’, ‘high fibre’ & ‘rich in fibre’ under Australian regulation?

ANSWER

According to Nutrition, Health and Related Claims (Standard 1.2.7) of Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, conditions that must be met for dietary fibre claims are as follows in Table 1 below:

Dietary fibre A serving of the food contains at least 2g of dietary fibre unless the claim is about low or reduced dietary fibre. Good source A serving of the food contains at least 4g of dietary fibre.
Excellent source A serving of the food contains at least 7g of dietary fibre.
Increased (a) The referred food contains at least 2g of dietary fibre per serving; and
(b) the food contains at least 25% more dietary fibre than in the same quantity of referred food.

In order to make claims on descriptors as stated in column 3 (Good source, excellent source and increased), products are required to fulfil the general claim conditions stated in column 2 and specific conditions in column 4. Please refer to the attached guideline for full details.
