Labelling regulation of antioxidant in ice cream packing – In Sri Lanka any company does not declare E304 and E 307 in their ice cream label, they are added to prevent oxidation of Mono and Diglyceride fatty acid and give longer shelf life to the Product. Our customer want to clarify this whether it must or not declare in the label.

ANSWER

According to General Standard for The Labelling of Prepackaged Foods (CXS 1-1985), a food additive carried over into foods at a level less than that required to achieve a technological function are exempted from declaration in the list of ingredients. The exemption does not apply to food additives and processing aids listed in section 4.2.1.4. which is known to cause hypersensitivity.
