What is the maximum amount of propylene Glycol allowed as food additives in Malaysia?

ANSWER

According to Food Regulation 1985, there are no specific regulations that stipulate Propylene Glycol limitations in food.

However, the Malaysia food regulations also adhere to Codex. Table below lists the maximum permitted level of propylene glycol in food according to General Standard for Food Additive under Codex STAN 192-1995:

Chewing gum 20000 mg/kg
Fresh pastas and noodles and like products 20000 mg/kg
Pre-cooked pastas and noodles and like products 10000 mg/kg
Bread and ordinary bakery wares 1500 mg/kg
Fine bakery wares (sweet, salty, savoury) and mixes 1500 mg/kg
Emulsified sauces and dips (e.g. mayonnaise, salad dressing, onion dip) 1000 mg/kg
Food supplements 2000 mg/kg
Snacks – potato, cereal, flour or starch based (from roots and tubers, pulses and legumes) 300 mg/kg
