What are the types of Iron that is permitted in foods in Malaysia?

ANSWER

According to Twelfth Schedule of Food Regulations 1985, the following iron are permitted to be added in food:

  1. Carbonyl iron
  2. Electrolytic iron
  3. Ferric ammonium citrate
  4. Ferric caseinate
  5. Ferric citrate
  6. Ferric gluconate
  7. Ferric phosphate
  8. Ferric pyrophosphate
  9. Ferrous carbonate, stabilized
  10. Ferrous citrate
  11. Ferrous fumarate
  12. Ferrous gluconate
  13. Ferrous lactat
  14. Ferrous succinate
  15. Ferrous sulphate
  16. Hydrogen reduced iron
  17. Sodium ferric pyrophosphate
