Food safety involves everybody in the food chain

DPO International was again the main sponsor for the EU-ASEAN Forum on Food Safety 2015 held at the prestigious Double Tree by Hilton in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The 2 day forum was about nurturing the EU-ASEAN policy dialogue on a harmonised food safety and food regulatory environment.

This year’s forum was a highly stimulating and interactive one with more participants involved in engaging discussions and riveting debates on the benefits, current situation as well as the what’s and the how to’s in the efforts to implement a more harmonised food standard within ASEAN countries.

Speakers and panellists comprising food safety experts and thought leaders including Mr. Paul Mandl from the ASEAN Regional Integration Support from the EU (ARISE) programme, Ms. Viengxay Vansilalom from the Ministry of Health, Lao PDR, Mr. Adhi Lukman, the current Chairman of GAPMMI, the Indonesian Food & Beverages Association, Ms. Noraini Dato’ Mohd. Othman from the Ministry of Health, Malaysia & ASEAN Expert Group on Food Safety (AEGFS) and more. The forum was moderated by Professor Jørgen Schlundt from the Nanyang Technological University in Singapore who was previously the Director for the Food Safety and Zoonoses Department in WHO.

DPO International's Group CEO, Daniel Pans gave the opening address for Day 2 of the event, speaking on the topic of Harmonized Food Safety Standards as a solid business case for ASEAN.

Over 140 participants attended the event, comprising food academics, policy makers, government representatives from ministries as well as food corporations, companies and SMEs. The main theme and scopes covered during the event were The Current Status & Future Direction for Food Safety and Harmonization in ASEAN, Challenges & Key Considerations, Support & Initiative and Collaboration for Effective Standards Implementation
